Red Creeping Thyme Seeds

Grow your own thyme from seed for sunny garden edges, rock gardens and roomy gaps between stepping stones. Enjoy aromatic foliage and seasonal pink-to-magenta flowers as your planting gradually takes shape. Creeping thyme also brings color and fragrance to containers.

Why Choose Creeping Thyme?

  • Soften garden edges: Add living texture around rocks, along borders and between well-spaced stepping stones.
  • Enjoy seasonal color: Small summer flowers complement the foliage and attract visiting bees and butterflies.
  • Bring fragrance closer: Aromatic leaves release their scent when gently brushed.
  • Grow a lasting planting: This perennial can return in suitable climates, with foliage retained through mild winters.

Planting Instructions

  1. Start in spring: Fill small pots or trays with moist, free-draining seed-starting mix.
  2. Sow on the surface: Scatter the tiny seeds thinly and press gently into contact with the mix. Leave them uncovered.
  3. Keep warm and bright: Aim for 59–68°F (15–20°C). Keep the surface lightly moist. Germination often begins in about two weeks in suitable conditions; timing varies.
  4. Grow strong seedlings: Pot up once several leaves develop. Gradually acclimate well-rooted plants to outdoor conditions before planting out after frost risk has passed.
  5. Choose a sunny spot: Provide full sun and well-drained soil. Remove competing weeds and water regularly while plants establish, allowing excess water to drain away.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will my plants flower and fill in?

Give seedlings time to build roots and spread. Flowers are seasonal, generally appearing in summer. The first flowering and the time needed to fill gaps depend on sowing date, climate and growing conditions.

Can it grow between stepping stones?

Choose sunny gaps with adequate soil, drainage and room for plants to develop. Keep foot traffic on the stones and allow for variation in the height and spread of seed-grown plants.

How much space will one pack cover?

Plan your planting around the seedlings you successfully establish. Final coverage depends on germination, spacing and growing time, rather than seed count alone.

How much watering does it need?

Keep seedlings consistently supplied with moisture as they establish. Mature plants tolerate drier conditions, but watering needs still depend on heat, rainfall, soil and container size. Good drainage matters at every stage.

Seeds arrived quickly. I ordered 1000 seeds....there is no where near this many that arrived....maybe 200-300 at most. I am happy with the volume but beware you may not receive a full shipment.

I’ve bought these seeds to fill in areas in between red creeping tyme plugs I have bought elsewhere. I did realize as the seeds grew
The characteristics of this tyme are very similar to ripple tyme
And I have absolutely no problem with that.
5 months of growth and it came out great

    red thyme

My red thyme sees sprouted and are growing nicely. I tried to plant them individually (tiny, tiny seeds) and managed pretty well. I plan to put them in the ground as plugs. I didn’t receive my seeds the first time around and had trouble with the delivery company. I could never reach a real live person. When I communicated this to Seed World they immediately sent out a new order at no cost to me. This is a good part of the reason I gave them 5 stars - excellent service. Thank You!!!

    Thyme seeds planting

I planted the thyme seeds in pots but I will not know what to say about the seeds because it takes about four weeks for them to germinate. They are the tiniest to plant. I had use pocket knives to pick up the seeds to plant.

I received my seeds. I have just planted them so I have not seen any growth but I am excited. They also gave me a tomatillo seed for free and I thought that was fun. They were packaged nicely and came in a timely fashion.
