Christmas Cactus - Schlumbergera Truncata - Thanksgiving CactusΒ Seeds If you are looking to fill your home with festive indoor plants for the holiday season? Christmas cacti make a great addition to your house decor. They bloom right in time for Christmas and are stunning to look at when they flower. Schlumbergera truncata is a species of plant in the Cactaceae family.Β It is endemic to a small area of the coastal mountains of south-eastern Brazil where its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist forests. How to Care for a Christmas Cactus A lack of water and dramatic temperature swings can cause flower buds to drop more rapidly. Maximize your specimen's blooming period by paying attention to these six key factors:Soil: Use a quality soil rich in humus and other nutrients.Temperature: Maintain an optimal climate of 65 degrees.Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist while your plant is blooming, misting it frequently.Light: Place the cactus in an east-facing window for moderate light and some direct sun.Fertilization: Apply a high-potassium fertilizer every two weeks once buds form.Transplantation: Repot your cactus each year after flowering.

  • 20 Silver Torch Cactus Seeds - Seed World 20 Silver Torch Cactus Seeds - Seed World

    20 Silver Torch Cactus Seeds

Silver Torch Cactus Seeds - (Cleistocactus strausii) Cleistocactus Strausii is a perennial cactus with slender, erect, grey-green columns up to 10 feet (3 m) tall and only about 2.5 inches (6 cm) in diameter. The columns are formed from around 25 ribs and are densely covered with areoles, supporting four yellow-brown spines up to 2 inches (5 cm) long and 20 shorter white radials. Older plants, over 18 inches (45 cm) tall, produce deep red, burgundy, flowers in late summer. The up to 3 inches (6 cm) long cylindrical flowers protrude horizontally from the columns. Choose a location that gets full sun and has well-draining soil. Water Cleistocactus during the spring and summer when the top inch (2.5 cm) of soil dries out. During the fall, reduce watering to every five weeks if the ground dries out. In winter, keep Cleistocactus dry or the moist ground combined with the cool temperatures and dormancy may cause the roots to rot. Fertilize Cleistocactus with a low-nitrogen fertilizer during the active growth period. A slow-release fertilizer applied in the spring will be sufficient for the whole year.

  • 25 Mexican Lime Cactus Seeds - Seed World

Shipped from Little Rock, AR, USA 25 Mexican Lime Cactus Seeds

Mexican Lime Cactus Ferocactus Pilosus Seeds Mexican lime Cactus Ferocactus pilosus is a simple or clumping barrel/column cactus with thick red spines. In habitat plants must be a great age, often forming into quite massive groups, with several subsidiary barrels growing from the main one, with deep green bodies densely covered with bright red spines up its entire length. Most plants have bright red spines with bristle-like, white radialsβ€”a wonderful contrast, but in some populations, the white bristles are occasionally absent. Such variation has led to the establishment of several names for this species. Stem: Columnar deep green up to 2,4(-3) m tall and 30 to 40 cm in diameter, with several subsidiary barrels growing from the main one.Ribs: 13-20, compressed, more or less undulate. Areoles: Distant to closely set and almost contiguous in older specimens, circular.Radial spines: Sometimes absent or usually reduced to long white or straw-colored hairs on the areoles that appear later with age. Central spines: Several, subulate-acicular, straight or slightly curved, more or less flattened and angular at first bright red/purplish becoming dull yellow with age, but some populations also boast yellow-spined individuals, and the white bristles are occasionally absent. Flowers: Yellow to red, about 2,5 cm long, scales on the ovary numerous, orbicular, imbricated, inner perianth segment oblanceolate, obtuse or apiculate.Fruits: Yellow, somewhat succulent, dehishing by basal pore, 3 to 4 cm long, crowned by persisting perianth.

Astrophytum Asterias Nudun Sand Dollar Cacti Rare Flower Cactus Seed Astrophytum Asterias is a spineless, grayish green to brownish green, smooth cactus with white, furry areoles, characteristics that combine to give it the appearance of a sea urchin or sand dollar. It is perhaps the most sought-after species of astrophytum. The root of the name astrophytum refers to the stars, as in the word β€œastronomy,” which reflects the somewhat star-shaped appearance of this cactus. Astrophytum Asterias grows primarily along the Rio Grande border in southern Texas and northern Mexico. Like peyote and Ariocarpus fissuratus, astrophytum asterias is also endangered in the wild due to over-harvesting by cactus collectors and habitat destruction. However, it has become preserved in cultivation by collectors. It is also a fine candidate for grafting onto faster-growing rootstocks such as pereskiopsis, San Pedro, and blue myrtle. It is sensitive to over-watering so should only be watered very lightly during active growth and never during dormancy. Alkaline, porous soil will provide necessary drainage, and watering from below potted cacti so the water wicks up through the soil is recommended. Grafting will also help by lifting the cactus out of the soil where it may come into contact with standing water. Once established, it will require full sun for blooming. Its flowers are typically yellow with red centers, measuring 2”. It has irregular blooming throughout the summer season. Once the buds have formed, half-strength fertilizer can be applied to encourage growth.Growing Information Seeds should be germinated in fine sandy soil at about 70-75 degrees. A commercial potting mix with the larger material strained out is ideal. Flatten out the soil and then put a thin layer of loose soil above it. Sow the seeds on the surface and press in very lightly. They need light to germinate. Mist the soil to keep it moist and cover it with clear plastic. Ideally, the covering should not be flat across the top because it will cause the water to drip back on the young seedlings, which sometimes causes rot. Something like a sandwich bag often makes a better β€œtent” because the water will run down the sides more easily. The soil should not be allowed to dry out while the plants are seedlings. Use a mister if the soil does get dry. Place the seedlings on a heat mat (ideally) and in bright light. Placing the seeds just a few inches from fluorescent lights is ideal for starting seedlings, although natural light will work too. Note that using a heat mat will cause more evaporation, which may require more attention. Be sure to air out the seedlings once a day for the best results. Quantity: 15 Sand Dollar Cactus Seeds
