Peruvian Apple Cactus (Cereus hildmannianus uruguayanus Monstrose)
Peruvian Apple Cactus, Hedge Cactus, Queen of the Night. The large 7-inch flowers open at night and close up shortly after dawn.
Produces red, lightly sweet edible fruit. The stems can be used for grafting stock. Also a great addition to an arid landscape. Cold hardy to about 20F degrees and has no problems with summers reaching 110-115F Degrees.
Blooms twice per year (Spring & Fall). The Fall blooms yield more fruit. Germination tests from the same plant reveal 4 different forms: Non-monstrose (normal); Monstrose; Spiral and Stunted Monstrose.
