Rose of Jericho (Selaginella lepidophylla) – Dormant Plant

This listing includes one dried, dormant Selaginella lepidophylla, commonly sold as Rose of Jericho, false Rose of Jericho, or resurrection plant. When exposed to moisture, its curled stems can open and green to varying degrees.

Species clarification: Selaginella lepidophylla is different from Anastatica hierochuntica, the flowering plant often called the true or Biblical Rose of Jericho. The product photos show the Selaginella resurrection plant.

    What You Receive

    • One naturally dried, curled plant
    • No pot, bowl, soil, or decorative accessories
    • Natural size, shape, color, and rehydration response will vary

    Rehydration and Care

    1. Place the plant root-side down in a shallow dish with a small amount of room-temperature water. Do not fully submerge it.
    2. Set the dish in bright, indirect light. The stems may begin opening within several hours.
    3. Change the water daily and remove any soft or deteriorating material.
    4. After two or three days, remove the plant from water and allow it to dry completely.
    5. Give it a dry rest of at least one to two weeks before another wet cycle.

Opening and greening are natural moisture responses, but no specimen is guaranteed to become fully green or to repeat the cycle indefinitely. Prolonged standing water can encourage odor, mold, and decay. For display only; do not ingest the plant or soaking water.
