    Description

Hedychium Gardnerianum is a herbaceous perennial in the Zingiberaceae family. Its native range is from Nepal to Indo-China. Familiar names include Himalayan Ginger, Kahili Ginger, Kahila Garland-Lily, and Ginger Lily. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant for gardens and parks. One of the hardiest gingers prefers a warm climate and can handle an occasional frost if heavily mulched.

It can be grown under glass as well as a good container plant. It can grow to around 7-8 feet tall from erect stems. The leaves are bright green, lance-shaped, and a foot long. The fragrant flowers have a red stamen that comes out of each yellow flower. When a large group of flowers is out simultaneously, it is magical. They are in bloom from mid-summer until early fall. It prefers to grow in full sun to part shade with average water needs. Zones 8-11
