A little plant with a vivid blue presence
Half Moon lobelia brings brilliant blue petals and bright white eyes to the edges of pots, window boxes and garden beds. Its low, spreading habit is useful wherever you want flowers to soften a border without hiding the plants behind it.
Why grow Half Moon?
- Blue-and-white flowers add a crisp contrast to mixed plantings.
- A compact habit suits the front of flower beds and container edges.
- One packet contains 200 seeds for starting your own seasonal display.
Plant details
Botanical name: Lobelia erinus 'Half Moon'
Life cycle: Annual
Height: Approximately 4–6 inches
Light: Sun to partial shade
Growing from seed
Start in a fine seed-starting mix before your local last frost. Scatter the tiny seeds on the surface and press gently into contact with the mix; do not bury deeply. Keep evenly moist with gentle watering. Gradually acclimate seedlings to outdoor conditions, then plant out after frost. Allow approximately 15–18 inches for plants to spread and maintain moisture in containers. Flowering is strongest in favorable, cooler growing conditions and may slow in intense heat.
