Leek – American Flag (Allium ampeloprasum) is the standard variety for many home gardens. This biennial is grown as an annual and is a close cousin to both onion and garlic.
Plants will reach 15-20” in height and will grow thick blue-green leaves with large white stems. Very easy to grow and great for harvesting in fall and winter. Will overwinter in milder climates
Germination in 5-12 days, maturity in 130 days Germination: 85% Light Requirement: Full Sun Planting Time: Cool Season Sowing Method: Indoor or Direct Sow Planting Depth: 1/4" Plant Spacing: 2-4"
I do not have an indoor garden so I am waiting until spring to plant. I will try planting closer to Feb or March in small pods watering with spray bottle, and slowly introduce the plants to outdoor conditions.
