The Arizona Barrel Cactus is indigenous to the lower deserts of Arizona and in Mexico: Sonora, Sinaloa, and Baja California Sur.
Drought Tolerant and cold hardy to about USDA Zone 9a: (-6.6 °C) (20 °F). It has no problem handling 110+ degree summers if planted in the ground and receives seasonal rainfall. The plant does best in full sun all day.
The best soil is a well-drained sand-pebble-dirt mixture.
Suitable for xeriscaping in arid climates or in containers.
