Botanical Nomenclature: Strelitzia reginae Common Name: Orange Bird of Paradise Family: Strelitziaceae Origin: South Africa
Originating in South Africa, this splendor and beautiful species has its scientific name in homage to Sofia Carlota queen of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, wife of king Jorge iii, united kingdom.
The colors and texture of your leaves are already extremely ornamental, blue-green, and majestic even without flowers.
But, if it is flowering, the colors in contrast and their shape, even seem to have been carved by divine hands.
A true "ave of paradise". It is an extremely rustic species, easy to grow and fit.
Planted isolated, in groups or in pots; it's a warning to please see it flower and have your presence in our garden.
Can be cultivated in full sun or half-shadow, infertile and well-drained soils, in tropical and subtropical climates.
yes id did buy and receive bamboo seeds from you. i planted same and now cautiously await some indication the sprouting will begin. we are in northern nj where it is quite cold so i am keeping the plantings in a planter system we use for seedlings. only time luck and patience will tell the ultimate story. if the seeds come to be small plants we will replant into pots until spring and after that we are guardedly optimistic. thanks for the request and service. stewart a farber
I do not have an indoor garden so I am waiting until spring to plant. I will try planting closer to Feb or March in small pods watering with spray bottle, and slowly introduce the plants to outdoor conditions.
