Cushaw Seeds with Green Stripes | Winter Squash Vegetable
A magnificent huge crookneck winter squash with green and white streaks, Green Striped Cushaw grows to be over 12 inches long! Originating in southern Mexico, this gently sweet and meaty squash is great as pie filling, cushaw butter, puddings, or roasted in soups, pies, stews, and curries. Save the seeds to purée into sauces or roast for snacks; it was thought that the seeds had therapeutic qualities.
One of the plants grown using the Three Sisters method of growing Native American vegetables is squash. Beans and corn make up the other two plants in the Three Sisters. In this practice of companion planting, each plant played a specific duty. The corn provided support for the vining beans as they grew. Using squash as a ground cover helped to keep weeds from growing. Beans served as everyone's natural fertilizer.
My zoysia grass suffered over the winter and I went on a limb to buy a few small bags of seed to repair some bald spots in my lawn. Much to my surprise the seed is coming out after a week and I am expecting wonderful results. Happy camper.
