It has Chinese roots, as suggested by the name. China asters are widely cultivated for use in the cut flower industry in many nations. The popular term "aster" is derived from the Greek word "star," which alludes to the flower's brilliance and form.
To begin indoors, direct sow the seed in a flat or peat pot 6–8 weeks before the last spring frost. After germination, which should take place in 7–10 days, maintain the soil lightly moist and the temperature around 65–70 degrees F. Transplant the seedlings as soon as they can be handled safely and there is no chance of frost.
My zoysia grass suffered over the winter and I went on a limb to buy a few small bags of seed to repair some bald spots in my lawn. Much to my surprise the seed is coming out after a week and I am expecting wonderful results. Happy camper.
