Prepare a suitable ground for bamboo growing

Bamboo is a fast-growing perennial evergreen tree. The root system is very concentrated and dense. So Warm humid climate is necessary for bamboo growing. The annual average temperature should be 15-25°C. The annual precipitation should be 1200-1800mm.

What’s more, Bamboo needs a great deal of sun, so you should usually pick a yard that receives 8 or more hours of sun daily. Shade can be especially important during winter. The combination of frost and direct sunlight can dehydrate the plant quickly. As such, if you live in an area that receives frost during winter, you should opt for a spot that receives partial shade instead of one with direct sun.

The suitable ground is the valley terrace at an altitude of 800 meters, slope piedmont gentle slope under 25°. Select the Leeward Sunning dale, good drainage, and irrigation, soil layers deep seedbed.

Amend the soil

Bamboo can do well in many types of soil, it does best in loam or marly soils. Improve your odds of success by digging and mixing in amendments to the soil before planting.

The soil depth should be more than 50cm. The best choice is sandy soil. The PH value of soil is 5-7(Acid or weak acid).

Please note the arid land is not suitable for planting. Avoid rocky or soggy soils, as well as soils that are relatively impermeable.

The right amount of usage of organic fertilizer, phosphate fertilizer, soil, and fertilizer is good for plant growth. Ideally, the compost should be worked into the bottom of the transplant hole so that the bamboo roots sit on top of it.

Seed pre-germination

Keep the seeds in warm water(about 35°C) for 24 hours. That is very important to wake up the seeds. Then take out the seeds and mix them with wet fine sand. Stir the sand every day and keep it moist. The seed will be ready when the white bud comes out. That will take 5-8 days. Pick out the seeds carefully and wash away the sand with clean water. We call this water soaked well seeds

Sowing the seeds

Firstly, Wet the seedbed. The most common planting method for bamboo seeds is hole sowing. The planting distance is 30cm*30cm. Put 8-10 seeds in each hole and cover the seeds lightly with fine earth.

Secondly, cover the seeds with plastic mulch or a thick layer of straw. Watering the straw to keep the straw moist.

Under different temperatures, the seeds will take different times to sprout. After the seeds were cultivated, it will take about 20 days to sprout when the temperature is 20-25°C. It will take about 30 days when the temperature is 15-18°C. It will take about 2 months for the seeds to germinate when the temperature is lower than 10°C.

Please note the seed will lose its vitality in this stage if lacks water or if the temperature keeps low for a long time.
