Red Strawberry Guava Seeds | (Psidium Cattleianum) | Fruit Tree Bush
This highly ornamental bush/shrub produces beautiful white 4-5 petaled flowers with long white stamens all year long. After the flowers bloom, fruits shortly follow. The fruits are 1 inch in diameter. Fruits are red when ripe and the juicy pulp is white. Fruits are sweet and aromatic and the skin is eaten with the fruit. With this guava, you can pick it off of the bush or tree and eat them right away without further preparation.
Grow Zones: 9,10,11,12 (Indoor near sunlight for cooler zones) Other Names: Cherry guava, Cattley guava, Purple guava, Chinese guava
The Strawberry Guava shrub is a FAST grower and bears fruits in only 1-2 years! Once the fruit appears, it ripens within 3-4 months. The shrub can be kept at a bush height with pruning, and containment in a smaller container. Alternatively, it can be planted in the ground with ample space to grow to its full potential as a tree height of 25 ft. tall.
Germination Procedure:
Sow seeds 1/4 of an inch into the soil when temperatures are warm (at least in the '70s). Planting in cooler temperatures will delay germination. Keep seeds and soil moist throughout the germination phase. Under optimal conditions, expect seeds to sprout within 3-4 months' time, sometimes sooner.
I do not have an indoor garden so I am waiting until spring to plant. I will try planting closer to Feb or March in small pods watering with spray bottle, and slowly introduce the plants to outdoor conditions.
