Its bluish-green leaves are arranged in a distichous fashion in young plants but form a rosette in older plants. The inflorescences are unbranched and hold long, pinkish-red flowers. 

A small, usually stemless Aloe found on rocky slopes from Mpumalanga to N. KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa and in Swaziland between 1000 and 1600 m elevation. 

In juvenile plants two-ranked and the spiral arrangement only appears after a few years of growth. Leaf tips are often red in color especially in hot dry weather up to three simple inflorescences are borne from the plant simultaneously.
