A very rare, clumping, and non-invasive large bamboo, growing to 5-9 m (16-30 ft) in height within temperate Europe. Native to montane forests between 1700 and 2500 m in southwestern Sichuan and Yunnan, China.
Shoots and culms vary through growth from light-green to dark-green with shades of grey-blue Leaves are long, narrow, and weeping, Fully hardy to -20ºC (-4ºF) – keep on the drier side during frosts.
Bamboo seeds are not always available due to worldwide shortages of most species; this is because they rarely flower, sometimes every 30 to even 100 years (called gregarious flowering)
Height: 5-9 m (16-30 feet) Plant type: Fully hardy, large bamboo Hardiness: Fully-hardy to -20ºC (-4ºF) – keep the soil as dry as possible through hard frosts Shelter from very cold winds Sun Exposure: Full sun to partial shade Soil: Well-drained. I do not have an indoor garden so I am waiting until spring to plant. I will try planting closer to Feb or March in small pods watering with spray bottle, and slowly introduce the plants to outdoor conditions.
