Red Maple (Acer Rubrum) Seeds
Red Maple (Acer rubrum), known for its striking autumnal foliage, derives its name from the brilliant red leaves it displays in fall. This fast-growing tree produces strong, close-grained wood, commonly used for furniture, baskets, crates, railroad ties, and fuel wood. Its winged fruit, or samara, serves as an essential wildlife food in early spring when other sources are scarce.
Also called scarlet maple or swamp maple, this versatile species thrives along forest edges, roadsides, and riverbanks. With the widest distribution among East Coast trees, the Red Maple is both a vibrant ornamental and a vital ecological contributor.
